Projects for music
*Extimité (Engl. Extimacy)
Neologism - coined by psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, combining the prefix 'ex-' (out, out of, as in 'external') with 'intimité' (Engl. Intimacy).
1. Extimité points to the
fundamental continuity of
internal and external,
the paradoxical link
between innermost intimacy
and outermost Other.
2. In topology, extimacy is
represented by the Moebius strip,
a surface of which the inside and the
outside are continuous, indistinguishable.
Extimité is a chamber music ensemble of variable geometry, founded by Tommaso Lonquich and Irena Kavcic.
Energized by the common desire for adventurous musical research and original programming, it is integrated by talented young musicians from all of Europe, whose paths have converged at the prestigious Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia and the Instituto Internacional de Musica de Camara de Madrid (Spain).
Extimité Ensemble has a flexible structure, with many possibilities of instrumentation (from duo to sextet, with or without piano), allowing for the performance of a colorful repertoire that ranges from Bach to Debussy to Elliott Carter,
In addition to traditional concerts, Extimité proposes a series of educational projects that rethink the space of classical music, going beyond the conventional boundaries of the stage. The result of a significant research, these projects seek close contact with the audience through dialogue, literature and theater, proposing a youthful and inclusive sharing experience.
Winner of the Second Prize at the International Competition Marco Fiorindo (Italy, 2010), Extimité Ensemble has performed in Italy, Spain and Slovenia.

Chamber music is the kernel of all music-making: in a vibrant performance, the artistic elán of each musician is driven by a playful and dynamic ear. We find that the joyful experience of music is conveyed in its freshest form through the coaching of fellow young musicians.
In this spirit, Extimité Ensemble is available for instrumental and chamber music classes.
Especially close to the heart of Extimité Ensemble is the project "Switching Places". Along with participating in a masterclass, the young chamber musicians will have the opportunity to watch the concert of the Ensemble as well as the preparatory rehearsal. This innovative format allows the participants to 'switch places' with the musicians. In the rehearsal and concert, they will observe the inner workings of a professional ensemble, as well as the performance which results from that work. In the masterclass, the young musicians will come onto the stage, coached in a spirited, active exploration of chamber-music-playing.

EXTIMITÉ ENSEMBLE “IN RESIDENCE”
Music-Social project
Extimité Ensemble bases this innovative project on prolonged residence in a specific city, town, or venue. This proposal may shape itself in a myriad of forms, customized through a dynamic dialogue with the local institutions involved. Thanks to the nature of this project, the cultural intervention does not end with a single concert; on the contrary, several concerts, roundtables and outreach activities can take place over several days. The musical and human contributions will seep deeply in the meshes of the community involved. This format also allows for the invitation of guest artists close to Extimité Ensemble.
Extimité Ensemble works in conjunction
with other performing artists,
and is particularly interested in projects
involving the theater and modern dance,
as well as collaborating with composers.
